MEALS FOR MUMS...
provides a daily meal for the first 5 days that mum is home with a new baby.
We all know that the time with your new baby is very special, and here in Cromwell we all get together to make your "coming home" an easy and settling experience. We will bring you an evening meal for the first 5 days that you are home. When the service gets in touch with you, please make sure you give any food preferences or allergies so that we can cater for you safely.
There is an expectation that if you receive meals, then you will, in turn, take a place on the roster to deliver meals to other mums further down the line (after your baby has grown up a bit, of course!). We do understand that circumstance vary, and you may not be in a position to help out down the line. Don't let that put you off using this service, just have a chat to Anne Gabrielsson.
If you know someone who is having a baby in Cromwell, please use the Contact Form to give us details so that we can help them out during this special time. If you are someone who would like to volunteer their time or food/monetary donations, please use the Contact Form to get in touch with us - anyone can help, parents, grandparents, schools, groups - the more volunteers, the more families we can assist!
The service is free and run by volunteers. It operates in Cromwell, Central Otago, New Zealand only.
Please see the "Roster" page for our current roster. You will also find contact details for the lovely ladies who run this service.
SEPTEMBER 2011 UPDATE
Anne is back on board with Meals for Mums and it's full throttle! Thanks Karleigh for holding the fort while Anne was off.
Wee Alfie is doing amazingly and it was wonderful to be treated to some delicious meals when we arrived home.
It seems that Cromwell is having a baby boom at the moment with 8 rosters from now until the end of Sept.
Anne is meeting with Di on Monday to get the $10 Plunket vouchers on the way so look out for that. Anne will soon send out a tally of how many meals you have each made so you can see how much you'll get. These will be posted out to you once a year. Please make sure we have your postal address on file so these can be sent. We also often get asked for an address so that Thank You cards can be sent.
MAY 2011 UPDATE
We would like to officially announce that Plunket are on board with us now which is going to be awesome for everyone involved.
Plunket has agreed to issue volunteers with $10 New World vouchers. These will be backdated to the start of 2010 when Meals for Mums began. Once a volunteer has made 3 meals they will then be able to receive the vouchers. $10 per meal made thereafter. So if you have already made 5 meals you are due for $20 worth of vouchers. I hope that is easy to understand. At the moment it is probably going to be given around the end of each year, but last years and up till now can be given soon.
We have a record of all the meals made and how many each person has made so you will soon receive notice of what you are owed and how you can get your voucher/s. Thank you so much to everyone for being willing to help out when there was no expectation of reimbursement.
Keep an eye out in the media as Di Earl (Plunket president) and I will be putting an article out about it soon.
We are having a quiet time at the moment. Not sure if it's because word isn't getting out to pregnant mums or if there just aren't any babies being born right now. So keep talking about the service to anyone who can be a recipient or may like to volunteer. we have a good 27 volunteers on the list, but more is always better! I am due to have my baby on the 30th June so I am handing roster duty over to the lovely Karleigh Dimond closer to that time.
Would love to hear any feedback about what you think, or any other ideas you may have.
JAN 2011 UPDATE
We are in the midst of a busy baby season with 8 rosters throughout Dec, Jan and Feb. A few of you may find your self on 2 of the rosters but I'll make sure to leave you off for a while after that. Some of our volunteers are having babies at the moment too so it may be a good time for past recipients to join the volunteers list and return the favour to the women that made your meals. Please let me know asap of your willingness to help. So far it hasn't been too much for anyone. 2 to 4 meals is the average amount of meals you will have to make a year.
We have had great feed back from recipients of how helpful it was to not have to cook for 5 nights and be able to rest and focus on bonding with their new born so what we are doing is a great service!
